Back in the Saddle: The Show

Hey Fam. Well, we've done the first show of The Wiz and it went rather interestingly. We rehearsed for 4 days and had many a glitch along the way with getting everyone together at the last minute. The show is really pretty good, and we do the original music from the Broadway, and movie, productions. The book is adapted to appeal to an audience of about 4-10 year olds and is set to run about 55 minutes.

What can I say about the experience? The show must go on, possibly. lol. Um, I don't want to be negative because it turned out to be quite a fun and interesting show; but everything seemed to go wrong on that first show.

With all the went wrong, though, the kids came out over 200 strong and enjoyed the performances and interacted with us quite a bit. There were quite a few changes and cuts cause the sound man and Glenda (the person playing her) didn't show up. Luckily I remembered all my lines and songs, and was very watchful about what was coming (or not coming) next. haha haha haha

Yea. It was something to behold and we all had a good laugh afterwards on the way home. Now we start rehearsals on Monday (proper rehearsals, I hope) for a show coming up on the 25th and about 4-5 more in the next month. This should be fun.

Maybe I'll have some footage for you in the near future. Be Blessed.

Back In The Saddle: Update

Ok Fam, Sometimes you just have to be ready for Success? Are you?

I thought I had a callback for this show for which I just auditioned; turned out it was a first rehearsal and read-thru. Maybe I didnt catch the inflection of the emails telling me that he (the director) wanted me to take the part of Tin Man. They sent me the script and a song to learn, so I just figured it was a callback. Ah well.

We started rehearsing and the first show is this coming Friday. If you're reading this later on in life; today is now Tuesday and first rehearsal was on Monday night. Oh! I got the email with the script on Sunday but didnt open it until Monday morning. Fast, eh? Yes, things can sometimes move awefully fast and you've just gotta be ready.

This business is a true rollercoaster ride, and I'm not even near the top tier. So you Think you wanna be a Star? I'd concentrate on honing my craft first and being ready to rehearse and perform a show in 4 days with only 4 rehearsals. Do you think you can do that? It's been a while for me, but I think I've got it under control.

I'll let you know how it's coming along.

Back In The Saddle: Auditioning

Hey Fam, I really felt like talking about this and took a little video; but I haven't really taken the time to edit it cause the process is still on-going.

Well, I've been looking to do a little TYA work. What's that? It's Theater for Young Audiences. Why would I want to do that? Well, for one I want to stay at home and work on my business while doing my weekly gig and TYA is usually early daytime work...and it's very satisfying introducing young audiences to live theater.

So I was posting something on Craigslist and happened to run across an advert for gospel/r&b singers. Now you know I was all over that...and it pays pretty good too. I went to the audition (and was the first one there even before the auditioners). I talked to the person auditioning actors once he arrived, he looked over my resume and seemed impressed while asking about a few of the credits; then he asked me to sing a song and do a monologue (both of which I had prepared).

I think it was a wonderful audition, it only took about 7 minutes in the room, and he seemed pleased and said he would be in touch. Ah, I miss auditioning so much sometimes. It used to be a daily thing (and sometimes several times a day).

The process is still on-going, because he did send me a script and a song to learn for a callback Monday (today). Wish me Luck! This is definitely the life.

American Idol mania?

Yes, American Idol has moved on to the Top 24 and I finally got a chance to sit down and watch the girls perform. My thoughts are in the video above.
It was a hard night for me and, though I enjoy the drama, several times I thought about turning off the tv and taking a nap. Yes, that interesting.

I hope you'll join me on www.youtube.com/robertantonnyc for more music, fun, videos, and laughter. Be Blessed.
